Wendell Moses, 61, was born on April 9, 1960, a son of Matthew Moses Jr. and the late Dorothy Oliver Moses. He completed his earthly journey on Monday, August 30, 2021 at Prisma Health Tuomey Medical Center in Sumter, SC.
He was educated in the Sumter County public school system where he graduated from Sumter high school class of 1978. After high school he served in the United States Marine Corps as a diesel mechanic. Upon completion of military service, he returned home to Sumter where he worked as a commercial truck driver and later became an employee for the City of Sumter. He joined Salem Baptist Church in Sumter, SC where he was baptized and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Wendell was well known as being an all-around handyman who repaired small engines and lawnmowers and built his own grills, fire pits and picnic tables. He loved being outdoors and took pride in gardening and raising his animals.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his father Matthew (Lillie) Moses of Sumter, SC; daughters, Lakeisha Brogdon, Shantel Moses, Shaneka Moses and Kiera Moses of Sumter, SC, Silena McCain of Pinewood, SC and Kyra Moses of Seattle, WA; sisters Mildred and Marilyn Moses of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, to whom he was affectionately known as “Poppa”, Destiny and Journee Moses, Shermane and Shamira Andrews, Faith Brogdon and Jaiden Pearson of Sumter, SC; aunts Francis O. Cooper of Sumter, SC, Hannah Moses and Mary Lee Walker of Brooklyn, NY; uncle Jesse Moses, Jr. of Philadelphia, PA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Wendell was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Moses, paternal grandparents Josephine and Jesse Moses Sr., maternal grandparents Harry and Annie Oliver, brother John Moses, Sr., and nephew Reginald Moses.
