Paul Johnson, Jr.

April 2, 1948 ~ August 23, 2020 (age 72)


Paul Johnson Jr. was born on April 2, 1948 in Sumter, SC to the late Paul Sr. and Mary E. Thompson Johnson. He was called from labor to reward on August 23, 2020 at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY.

Paul attended the public schools of Sumter, SC and later joined the United States Navy where he served on the USS Enterprise. Upon completion of his tour, Paul went on to work for the United States Postal Service, Chemical Bank and Inter-Care as a Counselor.

Paul accepted Christ at an early age and attended St. James UMC Church in Sumter SC. He later moved to New York where he became a member of St. John AME Church in Harlem NY, and was a dedicated, hard worker, serving in many capacities including: President of the Lay  Organization, the Steward Board, Pastor Aide, LRJ  Cathedral Choir, Male Chorus, Male Ushers, and Associate member of Corrine Judge Missionary Society.

Paul leaves to cherish his memory, two children: Andrea Nicole Johnson and James Johnson, his best friend and ex-wife Shirley Abrams, three grandchildren: Jonte’ Johnson, Donte’ Johnson and Jazmine Holmes all of     Sumter SC, one brother, Jerry (Diane) Johnson, Sumter SC; three sisters-in-law: Rosie Davis and Gloria Jean McDaniel of Sumter SC, Minnie Bradley of Bronx NY, three  brothers-in-law: Charlie (Betty) Davis of Bronx NY,   Alphonso Davis of Sumter, SC, and John Davis of   Charlotte NC, nieces and nephews, Sharon, Sheila, Therese, Paula, LaRonda, Kimberly, Antonio, Monique, Aleshia, Ashley, and Cory, a host of great nieces and   nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and other family members.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Marion Thompson.
