John "Ray" Edward McCain son of Clyde McCain, Sr and the late Evelena Anthony McCain was born July 7, 1955 in Sumter, SC
He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and attended Ebenezer High School. While he was attending Ebenezer he played the trumpet on the marching band. After high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was a lead guitarist for the Sons of Joy of Sumter, guitarist for Clarence Carter, song writer, actor (movie Queen, Remember the Titans, In the Heat of the Night. He was a solo guitarist, owner of Auto Dealer of Nation Auto Sales in Columbia, SC and owner of Ray's Detail Center in Sumter, SC. He was also a member of the Board of Education in Atlanta, GA.
For fifteen years he enjoyed living in the City of Atlanta, GA where he performed Country Western at the Buckboard and varies venues. John was one of the top solo guitarist in Columbia, SC .
John had an unbreakable union with his "sweetheart" Angela of thirty-four years whom he wed on April 18, 1987. To that union they was blessed with three children. He later went on to become a "Paw Paw" to his grandson.
John was an amazing husband, father and leader. He gave to other even when he was without.
He departed this life on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in Columbia, SC.
He leaves to cherish his memories; his loving and dedicated wife, Angela Greene McCain; a daughter, Ashley (Deshaquan) McCain-Brockington of Columbia, SC; two sons, Antwaun (Whitney) McCain of Columbia, SC and Ja'Keon (Shaquilla) McCain of Atlanta, GA; his father, Clyde McCain, Sr; a grandson, Giuseppe Brockington; a sister, Evelyn (Allen) Montgomery; three brothers, Johnny Anthony of Rochester, NY, Steve (Ella) McCain and James (Rachelle) McCain both of Sumter, SC; a god-daughter, Zariah Smith and a host of other family and friends.
