Janie Prince, age 67, departed this life on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in Atlanta, Georgia. Born September 4, 1953 in Sumter, South Carolina, she was raised as the first daughter of the late Mr. Stephen Gilyard and Marie E. Andrews Gilyard, and was the biological daughter of the late Ms. Rosa Lee Williams. Janie was preceded in death by her husband Norris Prince, whom she was married 32 years. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Minnie Pearl Williams McBride; father-in-law Samuel E. Prince; mother-in-law Mary Lee Cousar Prince; three brother-in-laws, and two sister-in-laws.
Janie was educated in the public schools of Sumter, South Carolina. She was a loving and passion filled woman. Affectionately known to many as Monk, Murdock, Monkey Doo, Otis, and several other nick-names due to her spontaneous relationships with family, friends, and being a help to others her whole life.
She played softball for many years with the Sumter Hawks softball team and was an avid baseball fan of the Atlanta Braves. She also enjoyed her favorite pastimes of soap operas, watching the news, and word search puzzles. She loved to cook, and was formerly employed for many years in the restaurant and food services industry.
Janie leaves to cherish her memories a beloved and faithful son, Quincy O'Dell Williams and wife Angel of Hopkins, South Carolina. two brothers, Archie Lee Andrews and Leon (Joyce Ann) Lowery both of Sumter, South Carolina; three sisters, Jeanette (James Herbert) Harrison, Rosetta (James Lee) Lowery, both of Sumter, South Carolina, Henrietta Galloway of Newport News, Virginia; one grandson Garrison Williams; two granddaughters, Victoria and Erin Williams; three additional brother-in-laws, John Galloway Sr., Daniel (Ella M) Prince, Levern (Anette) Prince; and five additional sister-in-laws, Shirley (Robert) Nero, Diane (Larry) Graham, Kathleen (Dennis) Doctor, Carteal Prince, and Jeanie Mae Prince. Also a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who will truly miss her.
