James Sammie Gadson, affectionately known as G-Man, was born January 16, 1956 to Joseph and Evelyn Gadson in Sumter, SC.
At a young age James accepted Christ and became a member of Wayman Chapel A.M.E. Church.
James was educated in Sumter County Schools and graduated from Hillcrest High School, Dalzell, SC, in 1975. He joined the U.S. Army in 1979 and proudly served his country for over 20 years. James was employed by Shaw Lumber Company and Santee Print for 39 years. He had a passion for music which led him to become a DJ for Sound of Sumter.
To know James was to love him. He was the strong and silent type who wore his heart on his sleeve and a smile in his eyes. Often a man of few words, James made sure you knew how much you meant to him. He could say a thousand words with just a stare and before you knew it, he’d dish out a wisecrack or a slow grin, always dependable for a laugh.
James was preceded in death by his parents and son, Jovon Gaymon.
He departed his earthly life on March 5, 2021 at Prisma Health Tuomey.
James leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife, Henretta; two daughters, Harmony (Brian) Gadson-Alston of Sumter, and Ashley (Ryan-Nicolette) of Greer; six grandchildren, Alexus of Wedgefield, Kayla of Greensboro, NC, Khamari, Christian, Caleb, and Cayden of Sumter; three great-grandchildren, Avah, TJ, and Aliyah of Wedgefield; two sisters, Meriam of Wedgefield and Debra of Sumter; three brothers, John of Wedgefield, William (Jenefier) of Sumter, and Joseph (Cozetta) of King George, VA; a sister-in-law, Bertha (Gerald) Benbow; two brothers-in-law, Nathaniel (Gwendolyn) Copeland and Isaiah Copeland; an aunt, Bertha Hunter; an uncle Jimmy, (Sylvia) Prioleau; a number of nieces and nephews, a band of brothers in the community, and a host of other relatives and close friends.
