At the age of 58, Gladys Marie Henderson answered God’s call for the last appointment on Saturday, October 31st, 2020, at Prism Health Tuomey in Sumter, where she embarked upon a new journey to unite with family and friends in glory and to “Walk around heaven all day”.
Gladys Marie was born on August 15, 1962, in Sumter County, South Carolina to Willie Washington, Sr. and the late Gracie Mae Gardner Washington. Gladys was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Sumter High School in 1980. She was employed by Blue Shield Blue Shield as a Data Security Analyst for 18 years.
Gladys joined Alive Praise and Worship Center, where she strengthen her belief in God and preserved on her Christian journey. She was an active member of the Women’s Alive Ministry (W.A.M.), Ushers and the Hospitality Ministries where she served faithfully in every way.
Gladys beautiful smile, laughter and bubbly personality attracted others whenever she entered a room. She was known for her signature head wraps that she wore elegantly and shared with others to uplift their Godly appearance. She loved attending all activities involving her son, grandchildren and family. Her hobbies were baking, gardening and shopping. She also enjoyed lively conversations and fellowship with those she considered dear to her heart.
Gladys leaves to cherish her precious memories, her Life Partner, Jessie James of twenty-six loving and devoted years; her loving son, Lamel Henderson, two grandchildren, Davion Henderson and Alayah Henderson all of Sumter, S.C.; three siblings, Gilda Washington, Willie Washington, Jr. and Hazeltine (Lorenzo) Smith, four bonus kids Cedrick James, Cheray James, Ciara Blakely, and Jessica King; seven bonus grandchildren, Londyn James, Lark James, Lourdes James, Lahna James, Liv James, Auri Blakely, and Lele King; three special sisters, Mary (Vernell) Durant, Diane Gary, and Geraldine (Ronald) Ragin, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends.
