Mrs. Francena Simon Burgess was born in Sumter County on July 1, 1956, to Sila Simon and Magline McKnight Singleton. She was later raised in the home her mother and stepfather, Dan Singleton. Francena entered her eternal rest on Friday, August 19, 2021 surrounded by the love of her husband, Levern Burgess.
Francena was a graduate from Mayewood High School of Sumter, SC. She recently retired from Pilgrim’s Pride where she was employed for 15 years.
Francena was a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant A.M.E. Church in Elliott, S.C. She served in various capacities within the ministry, which includes Usher Board, Senior Choir and a member of the Women Missionary Society.
The light of her life shines in the memory of her loving husband, Levern Burgess. Francena also leaves to cherish her memories (4) sisters: Ella Ree (Elbert) Burgess and Betty Simon both of Lynchburg, SC, Patricia Singleton of Columbia, SC and Rosa Lee (Jimmie) Solomon of Philadelphia, PA; (4) brothers: Sylvester Simon, Charlie Singleton, and Elijah (Luvenia) Simon all are from Lynchburg, SC and Jimmy (Julie) Singleton of Charleston, SC; (3) sisters-in-law: Devone (Gary) Goodson of Lynchburg, SC, Dr. Dean Rochelle Laws-Bryant of Sumter, SC, and Ervie Luvenia Laws-Robinson of Florence, SC; (1) bother-in-law, Robert Ronald Christopher (Mary Alice) Laws of Decatur, GA; (1) special niece: Brittany Nicole Goodson of Lynchburg, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her step father, and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Wallace B. Laws.
