Beverly Jean Britt

January 24, 1950 ~ June 10, 2011 (age 61)

Obituary

Beverly Jean Pinckney Britt was born to the late Martha Harris and James Pinckney on January 24, 1950 in Sumter, SC. She was educated in the Sumter County public school system until 1963 when she and her mother Martha moved to New York City. In 1967 Beverly graduated from Mable Dean Bacon Vocational High School.
Beverly became a member of Parkchester Baptist Church where she was baptized in March 1982 and served as an usher. In 1995, she joined Mount Hermon Baptist Church where she participated in the Mother-Daughter Choir and served as a Trustee. Beverly loved going to church! Her favorite scripture and song were Philippians 4:13 and "Help Me Lift Jesus".
On June 12, 1982 Beverly was united in holy matrimony to the late Hezekiah Britt. Of this union one daughter, Joi, was born on August 15, 1984.
Shortly after graduation she began working with JC Penney Company Inc., where she was employed for over 20 years. Her last employment was as an Administrative Assistant for Towers Perrin, which she resigned from in 2001 when her illness made working difficult. Beverly was diagnosed with Scleroderma, an auto-immune disease, in 1999. She fought the battle of this disease for over 12 years. Although Beverly was often in pain, she kept on trying to beat Scleroderma. On June 10, 2011 she won the battle by letting God take over and freeing her from this illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband Hezekiah Britt, mother Martha Pinckney, father James Pinckney, and brothers James Roland, Derry, and Marion.
She leaves to mourn her daughter Joi Britt of Bronx, NY; step daughter, Rhonda (Joseph) Clarke of Fairview, NJ; one sister, Louise P. Singleton of Sumter, SC; one brother, Harold (Mary) Pinckney of Englewood, NJ; grandson, Kyle Clarke; seven sisters-in-law, Zennie Pinckney, Margie Pinckney, Vinetha McKelvin, Clarine Williams, Shirley Green, Delores Pinckney, and Betty Martin; two brothers-in-laws, Clyde Britt and Elijah Britt; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and
