Amie L. Brown was born on April 27, 1942 along with her twin sister Alice to the late Adolphus and Louisa Green in Manhattan, NY. The family relocated to Brooklyn N.Y. in 1946.
Amie attended NYC public schools and graduated from Ely Whitney High School in Brooklyn, NY receiving her diploma along with her twin Sister Alice. They were inseparable.
After graduating from high school, Amie began working. She later married her High School mate, William Brown in 1962 and the next year they conceived a son, William Charles Brown Jr. Amie later began working at then Ma Bell Phone Company. She continued her love of sewing, making her own clothes for family, friends and mostly for her and her son. She enjoyed baking during the holiday’s making coconut bread and fruit cake. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing her entertaining and hospitable spirit to all those willing to accept.
She would host her favorite card games on Friday nights among her closest family and friends. Always willing to give her time to all those in need. She was big on traveling abroad and going on cruises. She made time to fully enjoy the fruits of her labor.
In 1974 Amie began working at the Veterans Hospital where her spirit to serve and help others in need really exemplified her personality. After 32 years of service she retired from the VA hospital as an Administration Supervisor. She then relocated to Newport News, Virginia to be closer to her Sister Alice. In 2007 she relocated to Charlotte, NC to be closer to her son, daughter-in-law, Sharon and new Grandson Isaiah.
She continued to meet new friends, travel, enjoying family and her grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her Mother Louisa Morris Green, Father Adolphus Green, siblings Al, Roi, Felix and Willis, Muriel Young, Emily, Eleanor McNatte and Sylvia Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, William Brown of Charlotte, NC, daughter-in-law, Sharon, grandson Isaiah, granddaughter Nia of Bronx, NY, two sisters, Mary Rodgers of Pennsylvania and Alice Nabritt of Newport News, Virginia; a brother, Sule (Fahamisha) Jaramogi of Quinton, Virginia along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and great friends.
