William "Bad Boy" Pressley Sr

William Arthur Pressley Sr., was born on November 29, 1954, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Lillie Mae Pressley White (John) and the late Henry (Almeta) Murray. William received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter, South Carolina and attended Hillcrest High School. He was employed by Becton-Dickinson, Bosch Braking Systems, Sumter School District, and most recently retired from Pocotaligo River Health & Rehabilitation. He had fond memories of his coworkers and enjoyed working with his family and friends. William attended St. Mark 4B Baptist Church in his youth and young adult years and sang on the Young Adult Choir. He was known as a loving, kindhearted person to everyone he encountered. William loved to fish, dance, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. William had a love for the outdoors and nature. Oftentimes, he would be outside sitting under the tree or working in the yard; mowing the grass, trimming trees, and planting flowers. William was known as the " Pocalla Daddy" of the neighborhood because he would take time to speak with young men and women from Pocalla if they needed advice on life. William was affectionately called "Uncle Badboy" and was a 2nd father to several of his nieces and nephews because he showered them with unconditional love. When he entered a room, you knew he was there because he loved to tell jokes and have fun. He will be missed by those who had the privilege to know him. William was previously married to the late Natalie Dyson Pressley for thirty-seven years until her death, and to this union four children were born; Stephanie Pressley Swinton, William A. Pressley, Jr., Trevin Pressley, and Malcolm Pressley. On August 13, 2013, William married Lillie M. Smith Pressley and gained two daughters, Jasmine T. Temoney, Shakimah T. Generette, and one son, Jessie Edwards, Jr. William instilled strong work ethics, life survivor skills, and determination in all his children. His desire was to leave his children a solid foundation so they could be successful in life. He never forgot his Dalzell, SC roots and would tell his children stories about his childhood to prove that better days are coming. William’s motto in life was, “The only time that you should look down on a man is when you are picking him up.” In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his first wife, Natalie Dyson Pressley, grandparents, May and Mattie Murray, Lillie Jackson Pressley and Robert Grant; great-grandson, Logan Stukes; sister-in-law, Tracy Dyson Sanders; and brothers-in-law, Leonard Dyson, Richard Hunter, and Phillip Simmons, On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland in Columbia, SC, William A. Pressley, Sr. was called to his heavenly home. William leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Lillie M Pressley; three daughters, Stephanie (Isaac Wright) Pressley Swinton, Jasmine (Quenton) Temoney, and Shakimah T. (Markos) Generette; four sons, William (Keaquanda) Pressley Jr., Malcolm (Elesha) Pressley, and Trevin (Lorie) Pressley, and Jessie Edwards, Jr.; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Dorothy Mae Smith; father-in-law, Robert Smith, Jr.; five sisters, Willie Mae Simmons, Mary (Robert) Pack, Elizabeth Mack, Mary Murray, and Leatha Richardson; three brothers, Rev. Henry James (Ruth) Murray, Larry (Annette) Pressley, and Ronald (Antonia) Murray; five sisters-in-law, Ivy Dyson (Holland) Ford, Mary Lee (Randy) Green, Dorothy Ann (Marshall) Dicks, Jannette Smith, and Angela Smith; four brothers-in-law, Delbert Sanders, Robert Smith, Sammy Lee Smith, and Micheal J. Smith; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends whom he loved dearly.
