At an early age, Val joined Bethel AME Church of Sumter, South Carolina and she sung on the Children's Choir. She held multiple jobs in Sumter which included Charm House Fabrics, Madison, Gold Kist, Subway and Windsor Manor Nursing Facility. Besides being well known for her delicious cooking, Val was always the life of the party. She made everyone laugh with her witty sense of humor and she knew how to tell a story that would transcend any imagination. In addition to her mother, Val was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Charlotte Wilson; her paternal grandparents, Ernest Sanders, Sr. and Dorothy Griffin; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.  She departed her earthly life on Sunday, August 22, 2021 in Sumter, South Carolina. Valerie leaves to cherish her precious memories, her father's Ernest (Lisa) Sanders, Jr. of Dallas, TX and Chico Pringle of Sumter, SC; two daughters, Shanikqua Monique Smith (Christopher Jones) of Sumter, SC and Shabra' Jena' (Matthew) Wright of Camden, SC; four precious adorable grandchildren, Ja'Corey Nae-Quan Anderson, Talayah Shamir Pugh and Khari Christopher Jones, all of Sumter, SC and Havyn McKenzie Wright of Camden, SC; one brother, Ernest Wilson (Tiana Colemen) of Charlotte, NC; one sister, Rochelle Leketia Sanders (Vernon Ray) of Charlotte, NC; two nieces, Tanisha Ricks and Ta'Nija Sanders; six uncles, Robert Nesbitt, William Sanders, Bernard Sanders, Norris Sanders, Deburn Sanders and Paldro Sanders; ten aunts, Willie Mae Cokley, Barbara Jean Harrison, Johnnie L (Lee, Jr.) Cobia, Diane (Sammie) Spann, Viola Hall, Della Ann Wilson and Patricia (Amos) Gibson, Gwendolyn Sanders, Sheila Cynthia Porter Sanders and Jeanette Porter; cousins who were more like siblings, Reggie, Gerald, Sharon, Vikki, Vanessa, Adrian, Eric and Taneka; other relatives and a host of friends that she loved dearly.   To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Valerie Wilson, please visit our floral store.
