Timothy Butler Cain, Sr., also known as "T.B." was the youngest son born to James Witherspoon and Annie Elizabeth Cain in Sumter, SC on May 10, 1931. Timothy attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School. He completed one year of secondary education at a local college. Timothy gave his life to Jesus Christ at an early age, while attending Goodwill Presbyterian Church in Mayesville, SC. Timothy later moved to Philadelphia, PA and continued growing in his faith to God by uniting with the Berean Presbyterian Church. Timothy served this church and community for over fifty years. He served as an Elder, member of the Deacon Board, member of the Board of Trustees and a member of the Men's Choir. While in Philadelphia, he met and married the love of his life, Eugenia A. Gary-Cain, who was affectionally called "Bay" by family and friends. They were married for over fifty-five (55) years. While in Philadelphia, he was trained in computer science and upon graduation, he began working for Control Data Corporation, a mainframe and supercomputer firm. Through his diligence and dedication, he worked his way to various leadership roles. He retired from the CDC and later returned to work with the Philadelphia Gas Company, as well as the Philadelphia Educational System. Upon retiring from those positions, he returned to Sumter. He reunited with the Goodwill Presbyterian Church and began serving on the Deacon Board. Timothy's faith in God was important to him and he lived out his faith by serving God, his family, his church and his community. In addition to his parents, Timothy was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia A. Gary-Cain; son, Timothy (Butch) Butler Cain, Jr.; daughter, Shirley Cain; daughter he reared, Naima L. Spearman; brothers and sisters, Catherine Young, Naomi Cain, Wilhelmina Scarborough, Gladys Brock, Flora Bosier, Sadie Cain-Jeter, Jessie Cain, James W. Cain, Jr. and Clarence Cain. Timothy departed this life on Monday, September 26, 2022 in Sumter, SC. Timothy leaves to cherish his memory four daughters, Carol Diane Ragin Turner, Catherine Cain Taylor, Debbie Cain and Linda M. Cain; a son, Timothy Donell Cain; eleven grandchildren, Quiana M. Williams, Andria M. Cain, Angelina M. Wingo, Jade B.M. Cain, Walter C.D. Cain, Gabriel M. Short, Sherri C. Williams (Thurman), Micah S. Singleton, Dr. Malaika K. Singleton, Delon Turner and Latrona Turner Williams; great grandchildren, Samir Johnson, Sinai G. Schuler, Khalil A. Smith, Dahiem Quail, Kailah A. Smith, Mekhi Quail, Braelynn R. Smith, Makaila Allen, Dallas Turner, Denver Turner, Trenice Williams and Taylor Williams; one great-great grandchild, Justice Gerow; three children he reared as his own, Richard (Ricky) J. Spearman, Divina L. Spearman and Quatima L. Spearman; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
