Obituary

Thomasena Swinton was born on June 30, 1954, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Richard Allen Swinton and Julia Mae James Swinton.  She was a beacon of love, strength, and kindness to all who knew her.  Thomasena completed her education in the public schools of Sumter County, where she laid the foundation for a life full of learning, service, and faith. She found great joy in music, often filling her home and heart with the sounds that brought her peace. Her dedication to Olden Chapel UME Church as a faithful usher was steadfast; she served with grace, always greeting members and visitors with a warm smile and a helping hand. Thomasena was known for her great sense of humor, which kept her loved ones and friends always laughing and smiling, brightening the lives of those around her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her cherished siblings, Lucille Swinton, Bubba Swinton, Richard "Peter" Swinton, Mary Lee Swinton, Allen Swinton, Janie Swinton, and Loretta Isaac. Thomasena Swinton, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully departed this life on September 10, 2024, in Columbia, South Carolina. Thomasena leaves behind six devoted nephews, Terry (Vernita) Swinton of Sumter, South Carolina, Tommy Swinton of Columbia, South Carolina, Tyrone Swinton of Sumter, South Carolina, Dale Swinton of Sumter, South Carolina, Brian (Denise) Ramsey of Passaic, New Jersey, and Darren Ramsey of Newark, New Jersey; three loving nieces, Deborah Ramsey of Sumter, South Carolina, Diniah Ramsey of Sumter, South Carolina and Brenda Ramsey of Sumter, South Carolina; a host of great nieces, great nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory. Thomasena's legacy lives on through her loving family and the many lives she touched in her community. She will be remembered for her generosity, her commitment to her faith, her infectious sense of humor, and the music that brought her so much joy. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
