Susie Ferguson Miller was born on September 23, 1947, in Boykin, SC, to the late Willie Ferguson Jr and Sarah Crim Ferguson. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Prisma Health Tuomey, Sumter, SC. Susie was educated in the Kershaw City Public Schools and graduated from Jackson High School in 1967. After graduating, she moved to Washington, DC. While living in Washington, DC, she worked at People's Drug Store as a cashier. After 2 years, she relocated back to SC. She married Tommy Miller on June 29, 1970, and to this union, 3 children were born. Upon her return to South Carolina, she was employed by numerous employers such as B.F. Goodrich, Pioneer, Craig Industries, Sumter School District 2, Tuomey Hospital and Randy's Apparel. Susie was a former member of Good Hope United Methodist Church in Rembert, SC, where she was a member of the gospel choir. She later became a member of Willow Grove AME Church, Horatio, SC, where she served in many capacities: church secretary, Sunday school teacher, stewardess board, and gospel choir. Susie adored her family, especially her grandchildren. She often bragged on how well her grandchildren were doing. Every day she looked forward to her daily phone call with her sister Minnie Ferguson. She loved playing BINGO. She enjoyed going to activity, attending church service, socializing with the staff and other residents at NHC Sumter. She loved to watch Family Feud, Young & the Restless, Rifleman, and The Andy Griffith Show. She loved pictures, capturing the moment. She also loved to bake and was famous for her sweet potato & coconut pie. She also enjoyed sewing. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings Mary Sanders, Martha Gardner, Willie Ferguson, and Godson Charles M. Dennis. She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Tommy (Buckeye) Miller of the home, children: Gary K. Miller, Katrina M. (Jervia) Alston, and Knaja Miller, all of Horatio, SC. Siblings: Minnie Ferguson and Calvin (Linda) Ferguson, Grandchildren: Shaquanda & Ta'von, of Horatio, SC, PFC Tyreek (Kayla) Miller-McCray of Newport News, VA, and Jer'Asia of Greensboro, NC & Jer'Niya Alston of Horatio, SC. Great Grandchild: Aria Miller-McCray of Newport News, VA. Sister In-laws: Alice Hamilton of Columbia, SC, Wilhemenia Miller, Dora Palmer, Brother-in-laws David (Christine) Miller, Michael (Shirrie) Miller all of Horatio, SC. Godchildren: CPT Darius Miller Johnson of South Korea, Dominique Miller of Columbia, SC. Special niece: Shaniqua Ferguson of Sumter, SC., and Bonus Brother: Robert Dinkins of Rembert, SC. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
