Obituary

Stanley Otis Brunson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on May 27, 2025, at the age of 66 surrounded by his wife and children. Stanley was born June 24, 1958 to Elizabeth and Robert Brunson Sr who are both deceased. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and lived in the rural community of Horatio near his siblings for the entirety of his life. A hardworking man, Stanley spent his career contributing to several respected organizations including Campbell's Soup, Martin Color-Fi, and later served with the United States Postal Service.  But, Stanley's life was defined by his relationship with God and his family. In high school, Stanley met and married, Ann China, and they had four children. They converted to the Seventh-Day Adventist faith to which Stanley remained devoted. Their union ended after 14 years but they worked to forge mutual respect. Stanley was a proud father of his four children and was lovingly referred to as "Daddy" by Dr. Stantrenetta Akeya Harrold (Brian), Gabriel Maurice Brunson (Kisha), Rebecca Joy Brunson-Nsubuga, and Amber LeeAnn Anderson. He was an attentive "GrandDaddy" to his grandchildren who carry on his ability for music and singing, love for camping and nature, and his athletism with his natural left foot. His grandchildren are Isaiah Maurice Lee,  Gabriel Maurice Brunson Jr., Stanton Calev Harrold, Hailey LeeAnn Anderson,  Canaan Elias Kungwa Nsubuga, and Israel Hughes Kigundu Nsubuga. In 2015,  Stanley met and married his now dedicated and loving wife, Lessie Mae China. Their union was filled with love, commitment to each other, and commitment to their church community as they continued to strengthen their walk with God and each other. They attended the Sumter Seventh-Day Adventist Church and were deeply involved in church ministries. Lessie supported Stanley in all things as well as expanded Stanley's life by adding a host of bonus children, grandchildren, and siblings whom he embraced. In addition to work and his family, Stanley was a man of many passions. He loved horseback riding, bodybuilding, and was a lifelong connoisseur of all things outdoors. Whether planting and nurturing his garden, or serving as a volunteer firefighter, Stanley found peace in the open air and purpose in lending a hand to others. He was welcoming, full of humor,  ready with a joke, and always had time for a handshake, a hug, and to discuss the love of Jesus. Stanley is survived by his siblings Christine (David) Miller, Samuel (Carol), Brunson, Regethal Richbow, Mattie (David) Pollard, Dr. Shirrie (Michael) Miller, Frankie Brunson and Lynn (Terry Snow) Miller, of Sumter with whom he shared lifelong bonds of love and support. His aunt Magnolia White of Newhaven, Connecticut and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother Robert Brunson Jr. Stanley will be remembered for his deep sense of responsibility, his quiet strength, and his steadfast convictions.  We honor his memory and the life he lived.
