Shirley Harvin Balls Choice was born March 12, 1955, in Sumter, South Carolina to Ruth Bowen Harvin Jackson and the late George Harvin. Shirley was raised in the Wedgefield Community of Sumter County, South Carolina. She was an active member of the Tiverton Baptist Church in Wedgefield, South Carolina. Shirley was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a member of the graduating class of 1972 of Hillcrest High School. She furthered her education at Central Carolina and obtained an Associate Degree in Business and Marketing from Central Carolina. In 1985, Shirley married Joseph Choice, Jr. and they have shared thirty-seven wonderful years of marriage together. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved all her family and friends and was known to all as a great talker. She was an all-around friend to all that she came across. In addition to her father George Harvin, Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Angelina Peoples; brother, Raymond Harvin Sr.; nephew, Clayton Peoples; stepfather, Willie Jackson. Shirley's journey home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina. Shirley leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband, Joseph Choice, Jr. of Sumter, South Carolina; mother, Ruth Bowen Harvin Jackson of Wedgefield South Carolna; five children, Leon (Shellie) Balls of Hagertown, Maryland, Shannon Choice of Sumter South Carolina, Waymeisha Choice of Sumter, South Carolina, Jac'quon Choice of Sumter, South Carolina and Deondre Choice of Sumter, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Myla Balls, Antonio Balls, Alexis Balls, Jashiya Isaac, Easton Davis, Erik Davis, Rai'lynn Porter and Violet Choice; twenty great grandchildren; five stepchildren, Quanda Choice of Sumter, South Carolina, Kevin (Ladrena)Choice of Bonaire, Georgia, Datrick (Latoya) Choice of Sumter, South Carolina, Antonio (Latasha) Anderson of Lithonia Georgia, Trevis (Yolanda) June of Sumter, South Carolina; special nephew, James Peoples of Sumter, South Carolina; special niece, Michelle Green of Dallas, Georgia; sister in law, Carrie Terry; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. The family is receiving friends at 26 Wilson Street Sumter, South Carolina.
