Obituary Sanders, Samuel - Deacon Samuel Sanders was born July 1, 1953 to the late Deacon John and Mary Alston Sanders in Sumter, SC. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He was a graduate of the Class of 1971 which was the very first class to graduate from Sumter High School. He also graduated from Eastern Seminary in Philadelphia, PA in 2008 with a degree in Biblical Studies. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church. He later joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in Newark, Delaware. While there he served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the National Deacon's Auxiliary. Upon his return to SC, he reunited with Grant Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher, with the Deacon's Ministry, New Members Ministry, and the Drama Ministry. He was united in holy matrimony to Rhetta Singleton Sanders and to this union one son, Jason, was born. Deacon Sanders enjoyed gardening, landscaping, watching sports and he was a student of the word of God and a hymnologist. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Rhetta; one son, Jason; an adopted son, Roland Rollins; four sisters, Eva Mae Prioleau, Newark, DE, Earnestine (Johnnie) Gathers, Evelena (Willie) Prioleau, and Donna M. (Neal) Dennis all of Sumter, SC; six brothers, Elder John H. Sanders, Tobyhanna, PA, Apostle Robert L. (Janice) Sanders, Sr., Buffalo, NY, Deacon James L. (Reverend Julia) Sanders and Deacon Roosevelt (Daphne) Sanders both of Sumter, SC, Jimmy (Frances) Sanders, Manassas, VA, and Ronald Gregory Sanders of Wilmington, DE; three sisters-in-law, Carrie M. Prioleau, Sumter, SC, Darcus Stewart, Woodbridge, VA and Sarah A. (Henry) Griggs, Columbus, GA; four brothers-in-law, William (Willie Mae) Singleton and Gaynard Singleton, Sumter, SC, Louis Singleton, Hartsville, SC, James Singleton, Greenville, SC; four aunts, Marie Jackson, Annie Mae Ludd, Sarah Pollard. Rosa Lee Jackson; a god daughter, LaToya Prioleau; a special friend, Reverend Clifton Bundick; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
