Robert was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. After which, he was employed with Shaw Air Force Base doing lawn maintenance service for thirty (30) years. He also worked with Mickens Construction. Robert Lee was affectionally known as "Yock" by many family members and friends. He loved family gatherings and was very passionate about his family. He was the uncle that none of his nieces or nephews played with, because he kept it real. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a one grandson, Christopher Danna Thompson; two brothers, James Edward Mickens and John Anthony Mickens; two brothers-in-law, Henry Bethea and James Rogers. On Thursday, January 19, 2023, our loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, Robert Lee departed this life in Sumter, South Carolina. Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Annette Thompson Mickens; eight children, Robert (Shani Stylis) Thompson, Christopher (Brittany Nelson) Thompson, Antonio Thompson, Rodney Greene, Jennifer Thompson, Antoinette Thompson, Gabrielle Thompson and Tamika Greene all of Sumter, South Carolina; forty-one grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six sisters, Martha (Herbert) Harriett, Shirley Bethea, Emma (Larry) Peoples, Laura (Vincent) Dunham, Mamie Lee Rogers and Juanita Mickens; four brothers, Isaac (Martha) Mickens, Bobby (Genera) Mickens, Sammie Lee Mickens all of Sumter County, South Carolina and Reginald (Debra) Mickens of Mississippi; five sisters-in-law, Shirley (Walter)McCray, Catherine (Floyd) Hardy, Evette Segars, Victoria Ruth and Vanessa Ruth; one brother-in-law, Ricky McCray; special brother-in-law, Robert Taylor; three close friends, John Llyod, Sammie Greens and Gregory and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins other relatives and friends.
