Larry Nelson, also known to family members as "Hump" was born July 1, 1959, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Ann Nelson and Joseph Riley. Richard was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Furman High School. He was employed by Carolina Furniture Company as well as the Budweiser Distributor Company in Newark, New Jersey. Richard loved his family and certainly took great joy in cleaning fish and doing odd jobs for people in his community. Richard would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it with no questions asked. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Debra Ann Nelson Green; grandparents, Millie Ann Jackson Nelson, Joe Nelson, Phronie Riley and Jacob Riley; aunts, Ida Ma Hatcher and Lucille Nelson Junious; uncles, James Nelson and Joe Nelson; brother-in-law, John Green. Richard departed this life on May 18, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina. Richard leaves to cherish his memory, a brother Eddie (Elvira) Nelson of Newark, New Jersey; a sister, Leshawn Nelson of Newark, New Jersey; a aunt, Fannie Bell Johnson of Thomasville, North Carolina; two nieces, Stephanie Johnson (Tory) of Pinewood, South Carolina and Lavonda Gary (Ira) of Columbia, South Carolina; a nephew, Derrick Green of Rimini, South Carolina and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
