Obituary Richard Brown, Jr was born September 9, 1942 in Miami, FL to the late Richard Brown, Sr. and Rosa Lee Bell. Richard was the only child of this union.Richard's family moved to Phahokee, FL when he was a young boy. He graduated from East Lake High School. He was a graduated of Sumter Area Technical College in 1988. He joined the U.S. Army and served as paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. He was a member of the 125th Engineer Company and the National Guard with services in Florida and South Carolina serving a total of twenty-two years. He served as a Correctional Officer, Constable and Notary Public.Richard received many awards, certificates achievements and special recognitions for his dedicated professional service as a member of the Armed Services. He was a friend to many and made many friends along the way.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Ignatious Brown.Richard departed this life on Sunday, September 3, 2017 in Sumter, SC.Richard leaves to cherish his memory, his longtime time companion, Betty Jean Richardson of Sumter, SC; five daughters, Kim Cuerton of Anderson, SC, Ivory Paschal of Bell Glade, FL, Iolanthe Brown of Winter Garden, FL, Ernestine Brown of Bell Glade, FL and Generia Becton of Phahokee, FL; two sons, Richard (Christie) Brown, III of Atlanta, GA and Sylvester Kelly of Phahokee, Fl; sister, Trypheney Johnson of New York; twenty-four grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:00 AM from the chapel of Whites Mortuary LLC 517 N Guignard Drive Sumter, SC. Interment will follow at Florence National Cemetery 803 E.
