Obituary

Obituary Mr. Paul Whittleton was born one of a set of twins to the late Mrs. Janie Whittleton Jackson in Wedgefield, South Carolina on August 13, 1937.Paul was married to the late Carrie Lee Hawkins Whittleton. This union brought about two sons, Sam Evans and Neal Ervin Whittleton. After the death of Carrie Lee, he later married Vermelle Duncan Whittleton, his wife of twenty-seven years. Together they shared the love of their blended family of four children in addition to Sam and Neal, two daughters was added, Wanda M. Haltek and Stacey N. Ritter. Paul adored his children and grandchildren.Paul received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. After leaving he joined the U.S. Navy where he faithfully served his country. He retired from the Navy after serving twenty-two years. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Korn Industries for many years until his retirement.Paul was a dedicated member of Orangehill AME church where he gave his life to our Lord and Savior at an early age. He loved his church and served faithfully for many years as a church School Superintendent, a member of the Steward Board, Male Chorus, Sons of Allen, Pulpit Aide and Class LeaderPaul was preceded in death in addition to his mother and his first wife by one brother, Joe Louis Whittleton and three sisters, Lizzie Whittleton Williamson, Martha Whittleton and Lillian Whittleton Ballard.Paul surrendered his earthly life on March 17, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey, Sumter, South Carolina.Paul leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife, Vermelle Duncan; tow sons, Sam Evans (Deborah) Whittleton of Woodlawn, MD and Neal Ervin Whittleton of Orlando, FL; two daughters, Wanda M. (James) Haltek of Oswego, IL and Stacey N. Ritter of Sumter, SC; three brothers, his twin, Silas (Shirley) Whittleton of Brooklyn, NY, John H. (Kerline) Jackson and William (Daisy) Whittleton of Sumter, SC; five sisters, Rosa Lee (Howard) Tillie of Bronx, NY, Ruth Ellen Davis and Pauline Harden of Columbia, SC, Mary Williams of Aberdeen, NC, Janie Sims of Sumter, SC; his mother-in-law, Hattie Duncan of Wedgefield, SC; eight grandchildren, three sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.Paul was a very happy person. One of his favorite responses when asked how he was doing was "good or gooder, if I was feeling any better I would be flying around with the angels."
