Obituary

Naomie Toney was born on December 15, 1928, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Lawrence Smith, Jr. and Adell Smith.  Naomie was educated in the public schools of Lee County, South Carolina.   Naomie was a hard worker and she was dedicated to all who knew and loved her.   At an early age, Naomie accepted Christ and became a faithful and active member of St. Peter AME Church, Mayesville, South Carolina.  She served in many capacities; to include serving as a Gospel Choir and Usher Board member.    Naomie was married to the late Vip Toney.  To this union nine (9) children were born and raised by Naomie after the death of her husband.  In addition to her parents, Naomie was preceded in death by ten siblings, Robert Smith, Daisy Smith, Satara Smith, Lafate Smith, Noah Smith, Margie Smith, Lillie Mae Smith, Jesse Smith, Lawrence Smith, Jr., and John Smith; grandson, Vernon Davis; great granddaughter, Oviounce Taylor; great grandson, Boddrick Plowden, and a special friend, Patience Champagne. Naomie Toney departed her earthly life on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina.   Naomie Toney leaves behind to cherish her memories, nine children, Hattie Wilson of Mayesville, South Carolina, Bobbie Toney, Jannie Mae Oliver, Harry (Lillie) Toney, Ernest Toney, James (Grace) Toney, Ronnie Toney, all of Sumter, South Carolina, Joseph (Christina) Toney of Elliott, South Carolina and Virginia Toney, of the home; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, twenty-one great, great grandchildren; special friend, Shirley Anderson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
