Mozel Major Ford was born October 6, 1934, in Clarendon County, South Carolina to the late Pinckney and Obie Farmer Major. She was married to the late Henry Ford Sr.; however, he preceded her in death on May 31, 2012. Mozel accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended Salem Missionary Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where both are located in Sumter, South Carolina. Mozel attended the public schools of Clarendon County. During her life she worked as a professional caretaker for Sunset Country Club, Morris College, and the Sumter School District. Mozel was a loving and devoted mother to each of her ten children. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She had a green thumb for gardening, and she was a great cook. In addition to her parents, Mozel was preceded in death by her husband; Henry Ford, Sr., five children; Barbara Major Brunson, Betty Elaine Davis, Henry Ford, Jr., Kay Cassandra Singleton, and Patricia Major Vaughn; one brother; David Farmer, and one brother-in-law; Willard Scott. Mozel departed this life on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in Sumter, South Carolina. Mozel leaves to cherish her precious memories, three sons; Randy (Marie) Major, Ervin Major, and Roosevelt Ford, all of Sumter, South Carolina, a grandson she adopted and reared in the home; Johnquel Ford, three daughters; Marilyn Hughes, Marcella (Bernard) Reeves, both of Boston Massachusetts and Macey (Frankie) Kennedy of Sumter, South Carolina, one sister; Ruby Mae Scott, of Sumter, South Carolina, and two sisters-in-law; Betty (Ceasar) Thompson and Luella Wilson, grandchildren; Melissa (Roosevelt) Richardson, Latasha (Theodore) Wells, Troy Major, Felicia (Eric) Dow, Frankie J. Kennedy, Chivona Hughes, Damika Hughes, Donche' Richardson, Che'Nique Richardson, Tyrone Hughes and Imari Somer, and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
