Moses “Bubba” Singleton, Sr. was born on Wednesday, April 8, 1953, in Dalzell, SC to the late Samson Singleton and Lucy McCaw Singleton.
From an early age, he demonstrated qualities of independence, diligence, and determination, and those would become hallmarks of a life dedicated to hard work and taking care of his family.
Growing up, Moses attended schools in Sumter, SC and later pursued a career in heavy equipment operation. For over 20 years, he was employed at Brown’s Construction based in North Carolina and throughout Virginia. He worked his way up to being a superintendent and managed a crew of men. After his retirement, he moved back to Sumter where he was able to enjoy farming, repairing people’s cars, and taking care of his grandchildren. He was a “jack of all trades” and had a range of skills in farming, construction, auto repair, and more.
Throughout his professional and personal life, he was known for his no-nonsense approach to leadership, dedication, work ethic, and generosity. Beyond career accomplishments, Moses found great joy in farming, working on cars, spending time with his family, and watching westerns. Those who knew him will remember his warm smile, caring spirit, words of wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his family.
Above all else, Moses treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (lovingly called Papa and Granddaddy), brother, and friend whose greatest happiness came from spending time with loved ones. He created countless cherished memories with them throughout the years.
Moses was preceded in death by his parents, Samson Singleton and Lucy McCaw Singleton.
Moses transitioned from this life on Sunday, June 7, 2026, in Sumter, South Carolina.
Moses leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Shirley Arnold Singleton of Sumter, SC; five children, Moses Singleton, Jr., Teresa Singleton, and Valerie Singleton all of Sumter, SC, Bryant Singleton of Marietta, GA, Dr. Kimberly Arnold Jenkins (Robert) of Philadelphia, PA; a host of grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Although we mourn his passing, we rejoice in the legacy of love, faith, strength, and compassion that Moses leaves behind. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
