Michael McGee was born July 17, 1958, in Bronx, New York to Margaret Billy McGee and the late Harvis (Bro) McGee, Sr. Mike, as he was affectionately known, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a member of the graduating class of 1976 from Sumter High School. Mike was employed with Exide Battery in Sumter, SC. In addition, he worked for several other companies during his lifetime to include City Wide Stock Firm in New York, Atkins West Meats in Sumter, SC and Winn Dixie in Sumter, SC. Later in life, Mike began driving for several trucking companies including USA, Builders Transport, Martin and JB Hunt. Mike worked at Lowes until his health began to decline. Mike loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with them and sharing at family reunions was his thing. He had a love for shooting pool, playing basketball and playing spades. In addition to his father, Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Horace McGee, Carrie McGee, Robert Moses Billy and Lillian McClinton Billy; father-in-law, Lee Roy Wells, Sr.; and mother-in-law, Ruth Levine Wells. Mike departed this life on Sunday, July 27, 2025, in Birmingham, AL. Mike leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Jannie Mae Wells McGee; mother, Margaret Billy McGee; six sisters, Jeanette McGee Johnson, Denise McGee York, Lillian McGee (Kennedy) Hastie, Sharon McGee, Pamela McGee and Margaret Ann McGee; three brothers, Harvis (Inez Kiplin) McGee, Sr., Eric Evans and Ulysses Kevin McGee; four sisters-in-law, Barbara Slater, Linda Bradley, Bertha Wilson and Annette (James) Hayward; three aunts, Rose McGee, Lula Sanders and Virginia Williams; one uncle, Robert Moses Billy, Jr. and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
