Obituary

Obituary Melvin Dean Rogers, affectionately known as "Deany", was born in Paterson, NJ on October 14, 1961, to the late Agnes Hunter and Harmon Rogers. He was born at the original General Hospital when it was located on Market Street in Paterson. He is the fourth of six children. He attended Paterson Public Schools and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School where he excelled in wrestling and track and field. He attended Johnson C. Smith University, Charlotte, NC for one year, and served in the U.S. Army for a short time. Melvin met the love of his life, Robin Williams . They were married on August 20, 1983, at Christ Church United Methodist in Paterson, NJ just celebrating their 38th anniversary. Deany loved children. He has two beautiful daughters, Tiffany Monique Butler and Ashley Latrice Gadson, and two enterprising sons, Ashtan and Ashford Rogers. Him and Robin opened their home to their nephews, Lamar Juvennelliano and Christopher Newton, Jr., and niece, Tonyae Robinson.   Deany is a master electrician, plumber and quite experienced in the building trades.  He began using his skills renovating residential properties and asbestos abatement. Deany received his business license and opened the family business Rogers Appliances. Along with his wife and family, he joined and was baptized at Ebenezer  Missionary Baptist Church in Manning, SC. He has served his church and community by serving as a Deacon and Mentor. And Deany also help young men by teaching them a Trade they can use for a lifetime. Deany loved spending time with his family and working his company always with a focus on expansion. He is preceded in death by his parents, Agnes Hunter and Harmon Rogers, and oldest sister, Barbara Ann Smith. He is survived by his wife, Robin Williams Rogers, children, Tiffany Monique Butler, Newark, NJ, Ashley (Robert) Gadson, Sumter, SC, Ashtan Rogers, Sumter, SC, and Ashford Rogers, Sumter, SC; siblings, sister, Janice Anita Turner, Newton, NJ, brother, Harmon Eugene Rogers, Jr., Paterson, NJ, Rev. Dr. Melanie (Rev. Jimmie) Miller, Elkins Park, PA, and Tonya Lynette (Otis) Robinson, Tampa, Fl., and brother-in-law, James Nelson Smith; seven grandchildren, Kayla and Kylie Butler, Zaychai, Zymore, Hynese , Brielle and ; very close family friends, James (Lisa) Pue host of cousins, nieces, nephews, family, church family, young men and longtime friends.
