Marcus A. "Big Griss" Lane, Sr. was born January 13, 1981, in Sumter, South Carolina to Garrett Franklin and the late Sarah Mollie Lane. Marcus was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a member of the graduating Class of 2000 from Sumter High School. He worked many jobs over the past years to provide for his family. Everywhere he worked he was loved and respected. Marcus was currently employed by Continental Tire in Sumter. Marcus was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Mollie Lane; grandparents, Earl Lane Sr. and Ollie Lane; five uncles, Earl Lane Jr., Darryl Franklin, Walter Franklin, David Franklin and Anthony Daniels. God called Marcus home during the early morning hours of Sunday, October 16, 2022. Marcus was doing what he loved to do, riding. Marcus is survived by his father, Garrett Franklin; seven children, DeMarkus Lane, Markala Lane, MyAsia Lane, Makira Lane, Marcus Lane, Marquis Lane, and Makhiyah Lane; fiancé, Courtney Robinson, Courtney's children, Cazieh Robinson, Javari Michael, and Jylee Robinson; four grandchildren, Melani Hamlin, Benjamin Lane, Bentley Lane and Kacei Sanders; two brothers, Brandon (Lanesha) Franklin and Antonio Jones; five sisters, Shashonda (Xavier) Harvey, Vontrell Lane, Shontrell Sutton, Tiffany Franklin and Brianna Franklin; four aunts, Gracie (William) Brown, Betty Pinkney, Delores Lane, and Barbara Jones; brothers from another mother, Butta, Red, Leroy, Dub, Nep, Smit, G, Merk, Munchie, Sax, Debo, Big Smit, Art Love, Wessy, Laz, Bobby Lee and hosts of other nieces, nephews, and cousins and friends. God knows when our work here on earth is done. God makes no mistakes. Marcus was sent here for a purpose. Once his purpose was served, God called His child home.
