Machelle Rebecca Lewis

Machelle Rebecca Lewis affectionately known as “May” was born March 24, 1966, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Samuel and Maggie White Lewis, Sr. She was the fourth of five children born to her parents.

May was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a member of the graduating class of 1985 from Sumter High School. In her youth, she attended the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church and later joined the Mt. Pisgah AME Church, where she remained a dedicated member until she passed away.

In addition to her parents, May was preceded in death by a brother, Rodney Lewis, Sr.; sister, Zelda Lewis Claridy and a niece, Kie’Aunta Claridy.

May transitioned from this life on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter, South Carolina.

May leaves to cherish her memories, three sons, Kevin Jackson, Kalvin (Felicia) Jackson and Dontrell Jackson; one daughter, Takelia Lewis; nephew she reared, Jarray (Ariel) Claridy; five grandchildren, Talayia, Imani, Adaya, Kashawn and Alayjia; great nephew, Lincold; great niece, Zelda; brother, Samuel (Carolyn) Lewis, Jr.; sister, Mellony (James) Anderson; aunts, Bertha Jeanette Singleton, Rosa Lee Polite and Maggie White; best friend, Gwen China; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
