Louis "Ham" Ramsey was born in Sumter County, South Carolina on September 23, 1939, to the late Rev. David and Almeta Austin Ramsey. He attended public schools of Sumter, South Carolina and early in life embarked on a professional career in construction. Louis Ramsey was born towards the end of The Great Depression. Life for him, early on, was very less than humble beginnings. But through hard work, dedication, and perseverance, he was able to endure great success, despite it all. He was the owner and sole proprietor of Ramrod Construction Company for over 50 years. In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by one son, John Lee Ramsey; daughter, Betty Ramsey; three brothers, David Ramsey Jr, Leroy Ramsey, and Johnny Ramsey; five sisters, Mary Ellen Ramsey-Fries, Nettie Ramsey-Gains, Betty Lue Ramsey, and Amelia Ramsey Nickens; and the women of his life, Elizabeth Ramsey, Rebecca Ramsey, Rebecca Preston and Fannie Jackson. Louis departed this life on Friday, September 6, 2024, in Sumter, South Carolina. Louis memories will be cherished by one daughter, Felicia "Lisa" Ramsey; five sons, James (Michelle) Ramsey, David Terry (Tarsha) Ramsey of Sumter, South Carolina, Cleveland "Brother" Holmes of Wilmington, Delaware, Simon Ramsey of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Antonio "Tony" Ramsey of Atlanta, Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Juanita (Elbert) Deas of Sumter, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Marie Ramsey, and one brother-in-law, Dennis Nickens IIIL; the new generation, to include his fifteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and dear friends.
