Obituary

Louis "Junior" Gamble was born in Mechanicsville, South Carolina to the late Reverend Caston and Pauline Gamble on September 23, 1949. By all accounts, "Junior" was an exceptional person. His character reflected all the hallmarks of a great man. He was a kind, strong, knowledgeable, dependable and trustworthy gentleman. They say, "You can tell a lot about a man by the way he treats his mother." Well in that regard, Louis was a devoted son that loved his mother dearly. He sacrificed many of his adult years taking care of her and tending to her every need until she was called home in 2009. Louis was a loving and caring father. He was an outstanding provider that would do anything he could to make life easier for his children. As a grandfather, he was funny and lively. Some of his grandchildren affectionately called him "I-Daddy" and his smile filled their hearts with light and laughter every time he cracked jokes with them. He had a special place in his heart for his youngest granddaughter, Londyn, and was so proud to spend his twilight years watching her blossom and grow. In 1975, Louis graduated from Brooklyn College with a bachelor's degree. He proudly worked for New York City Transit and retired in 2005 after 25 years of service. Throughout his life, Louis was a problem solver with a sharp mind and a knack for working with numbers. He was always well-dressed and smelled good. He was an avid sports fan and talented athlete that loved football, basketball, and won many bowling trophies. He enjoyed spending hours tinkering on his old school cars, and if your car ever broke down — he was the guy you'd call to get you back on the road again. Louis lived life with a vibrancy and warmth that was infectious. He had an angelic aura and everyone that had the pleasure of spending time with him knew that just being in his presence made you feel like everything was going to be alright. If you called him for help with a problem, the calmness in his voice immediately melted your stress away and 9 times out of 10, you got off that call with a solution to your problem and a smile on your face. That was just his way. Louis had an enormous heart and was the most generous person many of us will ever know in this lifetime. He would not hesitate to give the shirt off his back to family or friends. He gave so much to so many people without ever asking or expecting anything in return. Louis was the definition of SELFLESS — THE EXACT OPPOSITE OF SELFISH. He was a blessing to anyone that met him, and you'd be surprised to find a person that could say a bad word about him. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Caston and Pauline Gamble; two brothers, Isiah and Nathan Gamble; the mother of his youngest children, Jeanette Johnson, and a host of nieces and nephews. Louis "Junior" Gamble was called by his Heavenly Father home to glory on Saturday, December 14, 2024. Louis is survived by three sons, Louis Gamble Jr., Kevin Gamble, and Lawrence Gamble; daughter, Kim Precious Gamble; six grandchildren, Kevin Gamble Jr., Kennedy Gamble, Louis Gamble III, Phoenix Gamble, Kaleb Gamble, and Londyn Smith; four sisters, Mary Lee Charles, Estelle Scarborough, Pauline Johnson, and Lillie Gross; brother-in-law, Lucious Johnson; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Gamble; former spouse and mother of his oldest children, Vivian Gamble; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and close friends.   Louis "Junior" Gamble will truly be missed but his memory will forever be emblazoned on our hearts, and we should all count ourselves lucky to have known such an amazing person.
