Linard Stanley Jones, known as “Ace or Sleepy” was born February 7, 1976, to the late Ernest and Emma Humes Jones, Sr.
Linard was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He was a graduate of Mayewood High School and a member of the graduating class of 1994. In 1996, he joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Mayport, Florida aboard the USS Boone FFG-28. Linard was later assigned to Manama Bahrain, where he served as a Watch Center Supervisor for the Fifth Fleet from 1998 to 2000. Upon the completion of this tour he was assigned to Quantico, Virginia. Linard was a member of the Masons.
In addition to his parents, Linard was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James Humes, Sr., and Linnie Bailey Humes; three brothers, Ernest Jones, Jr., Daryl Jones and Richard Jones; and a sister, Diane Jones.
Linard transitioned from this life on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in Elgin, South Carolina.
Linard leaves to cherish his precious memories, a loving daughter, Shailyn Jones of Somers Point, New Jersey; loving and devoted sisters, Lorraine Jones of Sumter, South Carolina and Lynette (Jose) Vargas of Houston, Texas; very special nephew, Nigel Johnson of Bowling Green, Kentucky; special niece, Timera Johnson of Sumter, South Carolina; special grand niece, Kalum Green of Sumter, South Carolina; three aunts, Gale (Leroy) Copeland, Flora (Robert) Brown, and Rosa Dunham, all of Sumter, South Carolina; four uncles, Leroy (Reverend Vermell Marshall) Humes, Freeman Humes, Alfred (Sandra) Humes, all of Sumter, South Carolina and Henry (Ingrid) Humes of Hilton Head, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
