Obituary

"And God shall wipe away all tears from thine eyes, and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain." Revelation 21:4 Larry Johnson was born in Pinewood, South Carolina on September 9, 1951, to the late George and Annie Jane Hickman Johnson. Larry was a 1970 graduate of Furman High School. He was employed by Laidlaw, formerly known as GSX, as a certified welder for many years, as well as the City of Sumter until his retirement in 2010. Larry accepted Christ and joined St. James AME Church at an early age. He loved the Lord and was a devoted and committee member of St. James. Larry served on the Trustee Board, Ushering Board, Adult Choir, and wherever there was a need to serve. His favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me." Known as the devoted patriarch of the family, Larry loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, and frying fish for the community. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by six sisters, Maggie Johnson, Hattie Mae Johnson, Annie Mae Johnson, Dorothy Johnson, Betty Johnson, and Jeannie Johnson; and two brothers, George Johnson and Henry Johnson. Larry Johnson, a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully at Prisma Health Hospital in Sumter, South Carolina on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Larry's memories will be cherished by his son, Arick Coulette; a special young man reared in the home as a son, Juan (Felicia) Lester; five grandchildren, Tresomd Pringle, Yabre Green, Arieyelle Coulette, Kamaree Coulette, and Beautiful Shaw; four great-grandchildren; one adopted sister, Dorothy Johnson; one sister-in-law, Carrie Pugh Johnson; three special caregivers, Joy Ann Johnson, Shiron Johnson, and Lynn Wilson; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends.
