Larry Dexter Budden

Larry Dexter Budden was born April 3, 1958 in Sumter, South Carolina to the late Thomas Hoover and Nellie Dubose Budden.

Larry attended the public schools in Sumter County. He was employed by Budden’s Poultry in his early years, Gold Kist and Columbia Farms in his mid-years, and Defender until his health failed.

Larry was a hard-working man who loved his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and extended family. He loved his dogs and his Cockatoo of 32 years, Brella. He loved peaceful and simple things.

Larry is the only person that would put a horse in the back of his car and travel from Pinewood to Sumter so the kids in his neighborhood could ride. He would jump on any family members’ horse and ride with no problem. Riding horses ran through his DNA. He loved farm animals, staying home, listening to music, joking with the kids and always giving. Larry had a deep love for all of his aunts; many will remember him as someone who could make people laugh.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Julia Budden.

Larry Dexter Budden departed this life on Friday, July 3, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Larry leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife, Birdie Budden; daughter, Tiffany (Marquis) Prince; three grandchildren, Kerisin Gray, Kelsey Prince, and K’Nelope Prince; two sisters, Loretta (Larry) Larhmen and Nellie (Dr. Robert) Hanowell; two brothers, Thomas Budden and Lester Budden; sisters-in-law, Diane Vaughn, Gladys (Warren) Barnabas and Peggy (Byron) Laws; special friends, Walter Moses and Dennis Davis; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends he loved deeply.
