Larry Gene Brooks was born May 11, 1959, in Sumter, South Carolina to the late William and Lila Mae Haynes Brooks. Gene, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Gene enjoyed driving trucks, as well as playing spades. Gene enjoyed his family cooking and was very generous with his time and resources to others.  Anything asked of him was done without hesitation.  In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Nash Brooks and Irene Hicks; and four brothers, Joe Brooks, Edward Brooks, Jim Brooks and Thomas Brooks. Gene received his heavenly wings on January 7, 2025, in Sumter, South Carolina. Gene loving and precious memories will be cherished by his four sisters, Birdie Brooks of Brooklyn, New York, Lila Mae Robinson and Janie (Frank) Wright, both of Sumter, South Carolina and Katie Hicks of Pennsylvania; three brothers, William Brooks and Solomon Brooks, both of Sumter, South Carolina and Albert Hicks of Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
