Joseph Leo Brooks, known as "Joe" or "Big Joe," was born on September 15, 1956. He was the youngest son born to the late Edward Brooks, Sr. and the late Fannie Williams Brooks. Joseph was also the husband of the late Patricia Hunter Brooks. Joe attended public school in Sumter County, SC. At a young age, he attended Willow Grove AME Church. He initially worked for Atlas Mineral & Chemical, Inc. in Mertztown, Pennsylvania. In 1986, Joe dedicated many years of his life to working in construction for Sil Mar Corporation in Easton, Pennsylvania. This is where he spent much of his career, while still maintaining his status as a family man. There wasn't much Joe wouldn't do to support his family or others. He wasn't a man of many words. Instead, everything was short and sweet, or not so at times. However, Joe treated everyone fairly. Upon retirement, Joe spent most of his time fishing and hunting until his health declined. He enjoyed watching western movies and that was his signature until the end. Joe was preceded in death by one son, Joseph "Trez" Brooks; one brother, Robert Brooks; two sisters, Edith Ramsey and Louise McCain; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Brooks and Joann Brooks; two brothers-in-law, John Hunter and Benjamin Ramsey; and a father-in-law, Charlie Hunter. On Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at MUSC in Florence, South Carolina, Joe departed this earthly life. Joe leaves behind to cherish his memories, one son, Andre Brooks; two daughters, Sanquinetta (Joseph) Johnson and Victoria (Tyrone) Coakley; twelve beloved grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Brooks Jr.; sister, Hattie Mae Rembert; sister-in-law, Mary (Ronnie) River; two brothers-in-law, Charles Hunter and Tony Hunter; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Hunter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
