Johnny Lee McKenzie

Johnny Lee McKenzie was born March 10, 1970, in Kingstree, South Carolina to the late Laura Bell McKenzie.

Although his biological mother gave him life, Johnny was lovingly raised by the late Kathleen Moore, who walked beside him throughout life and held a cherished and irreplaceable place in his heart as his mother.

Johnny received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County, South Carolina. Johnny was employed with Pilgrim’s Pride and Continental Tire for several years until his health declined.

Johnny’s life was marked by the love he shared with his family and the special bonds he created with those closest to him. Johnny held a special place in his heart for his beloved nieces, Tania Samuel and Shania Garner, who brought him so much love and joy.

Johnny was preceded in death by his biological mother, Laura Bell McKenzie; beloved mother who raised him, Kathleen Moore; grandparents, Earline Moore and Ribbie McKenzie; and aunts, Essie Mae McKenzie and Dorothy Jean McKenzie Woods.

Johnny departed this life on Friday, September 25, 2026, in Sumter, South Carolina.

Johnny leaves to cherish his memories, his siblings, Christopher (Bertie) McKenzie, Ethelena (John) Sinker, Dorothy M. (Tyrone) Huggins, Cynthia McKenzie, Eliza Durant and Cathy (Joseph) Epps-Samuel; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, as well as a long-time friend who was like a brother, Terry Washington.

Johnny will be remembered for the love he had for his family, the relationships he treasured and the special place he held in his heart for those who knew and loved him. Though he has taken his final rest, the memories he created and the love he gave will continue to live on through his family and all who were blessed to know him.
