John Mark Williams, son of Helen W. Dinkins and Willie “William” Brown, was born on June 2, 1965, in Sumter, South Carolina. He was lovingly raised by his stepfather, James Mathis Dinkins Sr., who played an important role in his life. He entered external rest on June 28, 2026, at the age 61. He lived a life filled with strength, laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.
From an early age, John was adventurous and fearless. He was driving by the age of six, loved drawing, and some of his treasured childhood memories were riding his horse, Jellybean, and taking trips with his father. Those experiences helped shape the hardworking, independent man he became.
John graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1984 before pursuing his passion for mechanics. John’s passion for mechanics led him to earn his mechanic’s license from Central Carolina Technical College. He built his career doing what he loved, spending more than 12 years as a skilled diesel mechanic working on 18-wheelers. Known for his strong work ethic, dependable nature, and ability to fix just about anything, John took great pride in his craft and the work of his hands.
To know John was to know someone who could brighten a room. He loved singing, dancing, telling jokes, and making people laugh. He had an unforgettable personality. John also took pride in his appearance. Whether he was headed to work or simply out for the day, he loved dressing sharp and looking his best. He enjoyed good catfish, had a sweet tooth that everyone knew about, and found joy in life’s simple pleasures.
John is preceded in death by his beloved son, Bryan Dargan; brother, James Dinkins Jr.; and stepmother, Cora Lee Brown. Though they have gone before him, we find comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.
John will forever be remembered as a father, loving brother, caring uncle, loyal friend, skilled mechanic, and a man whose strength was only matched by his heart. His laughter, wisdom, generosity, and unforgettable spirit will continue to live on through every life he touched. John leaves behind to cherish his precious memories his loving children, Tameka Wright, Jonathan Williams, and Alvis Williams; maternal siblings, Delores Dinkins, Ernestine Dinkins, Margaret Dinkins, Larry Dinkins, and Konrad Dinkins; paternal siblings, Sheryl Morris, Alvis Brown, AnTori (Debbie) Brown, Victor Brown, LaVonya (Julius) Robinson, Nemea Hall, Draja (Tikaya) Brown, Carlos (Michelle) Brown, Lavoris (Sheree) Brown, Joseph (Christyle) Brown, and Sherri Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who were blessed to know and love him.
