Obituary John Phillip Alston known as "Little Thing" and "DoDo" was the son of the late John and Ruth Patterson Alston.John was raised in the church and accepted Christ at an early age. As a child he attended Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church in Sumter.He was educated at Lincoln High School in Sumter, SC and was a member of the "Class of 1965". He further is education at Sumter Tech, where he received a certificate for a Certified Welder. In 1974, he moved to Fitchburg, MA, where he worked at General Electric as a welder until a job related injury caused him retire and later on he returned back to Sumter to live.He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Demetris Wiley, three aunts, Gladys Gilmore Scarborough, Blanche Williams and Sarah Fishburne Williams; uncle, Wallace "Sanko" Alston.John departed this life on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 in Florence, SCHis memories will be remembered by his wife, Mira Reyes Alston; two sons, Rasheen Reyes and Eric Spann; two daughters, Stephanie Reyes and Serena Reyes all of Sumter, SC; brother, Wallace Alston of Ayer, MA; fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, three uncles, Ollie Patterson, John Patterson and Elias Fishburne, III and a host of other relatives and friends.His journey has ended and his family and friends will remember his love for fishing and making people laugh. He was a great provider with a good sense of humor.
