Joe Louis Harris was born in Horatio, SC on December 9, 1937, to the late Ed Harris and Pearl Seawright Harris. Joe was a member of St. Luke AME Church in Sumter SC. He accepted Christ at an early age, he was committed to his family and loved spending quality times with them. He loved baseball, westerns and gospel shows. He enjoyed raising cattle (cows, goats and chickens) and always "shooting the mess". Joe was preceded in eternal life by his parents; his wife, Geneva Gathers Harris; daughter, Elaine Harris Halley; his siblings, Ed Harris III., Frank Harris, Mary Harris Ellison, Pearl Harris Hunter, and Azeez Abuwi Mustafa. Joe Louis Harris departed this earthly life on Wednesday, May 11, 2022, in Rembert, SC. Many loving and wonderful memories of Joe L. Harris will be left in the hearts of his two daughters; Renell Knight and Deborah Harris (Doug) Dunbar both of Sumter SC; three sons, Joe L. (Desiree) Harris Jr., of Jefferson, SC, Darryle (Sharon Harris of St. Louis, MO and Robert (Felice) Knight of Charleston, SC; a brother, Roosevelt (Delores) Harris; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shug Mustafa, and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins and caring friends who will all carry him in their hearts. His earthly presence will surely be missed, loved and cherished by all.
