Obituary

Joan Evans Dawson was born January 26, 1961, in Manhattan, New York to the late Mary Evans. Joan was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a member of the Mayewood High School graduating class of 1979. She later attended the University of South Carolina Sumter for Nursing.  Joan worked for various companies during her work career including Shaw Air Force Base, Manchester Farms, Gold Kist and Target Distribution Center. Joan Evans Dawson was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. She would help anyone in need and would give you her last. Joan will be truly missed. In addition to her mother, Joan was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Minnie Isaac; two brothers, John Henry Isaac and Frank Evans; and a great granddaughter, Deanna Holley. Joan departed this life on Monday, August 12, 2024, in Sumter, South Carolina. Joan leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, Melvin Dawson; six children, Patrick (Majorie) Isaac and Darius Choice, both of Dalzell, South Carolina, Maurice (Yolanda) Isaac of Lakeland, Florida, Shawnta Robinson of Killeen, Texas, Anthony McKnight of Jacksonville, Florida and Jayden Woods of Sumter, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Roland (Tonya) Evans of Manning, South Carolina; four sisters, Joyce Evans of Brooklyn, New York, Audrey Chism of Bronx, New York, Yvonne Chism of Benson, North Carolina and Janet (David) Croom of Providence Forge, Virginia; five brothers-in-law, Harold Dawson of Rembert, South Carolina, John V. (Melissa) Robinson of Dalzell, South Carolina, Linsey (Gwendolyn) Robinson, Sr. of Sumter, South Carolina, Derrick (Kea Qwandra) Robinson of Dalzell, South Carolina, and Bobby (Deidra) Maple of Sumter, South Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Veronica (Thomas) Nickens of Dalzell, South Carolina and Teresa Dawson of Dalzell, South Carolina; special family members, Edward McKnight, Jr. of Sumter, South Carolina, Sakethia Evans of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Toneisha Miller of Dalzell, South Carolina and Kenneth Evans of Massachusetts, Rhode Island; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
