Jerome Gantt was born June 20, 1949, in Charleston, South Carolina, to the late Verdell Roach and Leroy Gantt. Jerome moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his grandmother, Viola Roach, at a young age and later moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he graduated from Norwalk High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty (20) years. He was also a Vietnam Veteran and obtained the title of Gunnery Sergeant during his tenure in the Marines. Jerome retired to Sumter, South Carolina in 1992. In addition to his parents, Jerome was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Gray Gantt; grandmother, Viola Roach; and sister, Gloria Roach. Jerome departed this life on Friday, December 20, 2024, at his residence in Sumter, South Carolina. Jerome leaves to cherish his memories his three children, Gregory Gantt of Sumter, South Carolina, Steven (Crystal) Gantt of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Lamona Gantt of Raleigh, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Deandre Turner, Dashawn Gantt, Jordyn Gantt, Olivia Gantt, and Georgia Gantt; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends who loved him dearly.
