Obituary

"I am the resurrection, and the life; he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live." John 11:25 Jeril McElveen was born April 22, 1972 to the late Jerome Sr. and Mamie McElveen in Sumter, South Carolina.  Jeril received his formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. He was a 1991 graduate of Mayewood High School and was a star football player.  Jeril later moved to Kentucky.  During that time, he fellowshipped and was baptized in a local church in that area.  Jeril was a truck driver for five years and was "jack of all trades".  He was very outgoing, friendly and his smile would light up a room. He was known as ''The Pit Master''.  Music was his passion.  Jeril loved to cook, deer hunt, fish, and dance.  Jeril enjoyed being in the spotlight.  But most of all, he truly loved having fun with family and friends.  He will be missed by all who loved him.  Jeril was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Margaret Johnson, Sr., and Jeanie-Mae McKnight; and uncles, David Johnson, Joe Johnson, Jr., Leroy Johnson, Marion McKnight, and Sherman Sullivan.  On Monday, November 6, 2023, Jeril McElveen transitioned to his  heavenly home.  Jeril leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted son, Deldrek Javon McElveen; devoted brother, Deacon Jerome (Evangelist Tonya) McElveen; loving sister, Bobbi Jean McElveen; uncles and aunts, William Johnson, Simon (Mardestine) Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Levern (Marian) Johnson, Herbert (Tashiko) McKnight, Julia Sullivan, Dorothy Johnson, Wilhelmina Johnson, Deborah Johnson, Michael (Mary Jane) Johnson, Pamela D. Dickerson, Willie Mae Abraham, Jerome (Shirley) Gullatt, Lucy Ann Hemingway, Christopher (Dorothy Mae) Ulsperger, and James (Rhonda) McKnight; special friends, Marcus Rufus, Tyree Johnson, Reginald Darrell McElveen, Michael Williams and Lorraine McDonald; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
