Obituary

Ja'Quen Marquell Jefferson, affectionately known by the community as "Carolina", was born May 27, 1992 in Sumter, South Carolina.  He was the oldest child of Katurah D. (Johnny) Gause and Randy Weston. Ja'Quen was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, South Carolina. He was baptized at an early age and became a member of the Joshua Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Eugene Dennis. Ja'Quen loved to laugh and make others laugh. Whenever you encountered Ja'Quen, you would either get a hug or a big "Kool-Aid" smile. He believed in family and loved spending time with them. Whenever a family member traveled from out of town, he felt the responsibility to show them a great time. Ja'Quen was preceded in death by his grandfather, Herbert Moore; great grandparents, James and Carrie Weston, Dorothy Blanding, Charles Moon, James Brunson, Louis and Rosa Boykin Jefferson and Albert And Ella Moore; two uncles, Michael Jefferson and Samuel Jefferson; and two aunts, Rosa Bell and Joyce Addison. Ja'Quen transitioned from his earthly home on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter, South Carolina. Ja'Quen leaves to mourn his passing, his mother, Katurah D. (Johnny) Gause of Columbia, South Carolina; father, Randy Weston of Sumter, South Carolina; son, Jykeem Jefferson of Camden, South Carolina; two sisters, Jhanee Jefferson of Dallas, Texas and Jhaniya Gause of Columbia, South Carolina; two brothers, Christopher (Jacqueline) Mack Weston and Randy Mack Weston; grandparents, Clarence and Juanita Weston of Sumter, South Carolina, Gladys Moore of Rembert, South Carolina and Johnny and Betty Gause of Sumter, South Carolina; great grandmother, Ada Brunson of Sumter, South Carolina; two aunts, Lisa (Melvin) Benbow of Sumter, South Carolina and Yolanda Gause of Sumter, South Carolina; uncle, Clarence (Tina) Weston; ten grand aunts; six grand uncles; godmothers, Sebrinia Moore and Tanisha Baldwin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and dear friends.
