James Deland Sr. was born May 21, 1938, in Florence, South Carolina to the late Allen and Viola Brown Deland. James joined the United States Army, where he then completed his education. He loved to work and anything pertaining to the military excited him. He was a proud Veteran of the US Army as he retired while stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky Army Post in 1973. We are deeply saddened to say that James departed this life on Saturday, November 12th, 2022, at National HealthCare in Sumter, SC. James was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Viola Deland. James leaves to cherish his loving memory, grieve his passing and celebrate his life's accomplishments; his devoted wife of 61yrs, Betty J. Deland, his children, Juanita J. Deland Simmons, of Charleston, SC, James Deland Jr. and Sandy Deland both of Sumter, SC. His grandchildren; Becky J. Deland, Nicholas Deland, Tommy L. Deland and Amber Deland all of Sumter, SC and a host of other relatives and friends.
