James "Jimmy" Edward Lancaster was born October 17, 1958, in La Rochelle, France, to the late John J. and Ruth E. Lancaster, Sr. After matriculating at Sumter District 2 schools, he joined the U.S. Army, where he served for 13 years. James attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After serving his country, he became a machine operator for Cooper Tools. Jimmy was the beloved father of James Lancaster (Kathleen Lancaster, mother) and McKenzie S. Lancaster (Sonja Smith, mother). He was also the proud grandfather of Xzavien and Tyreke Lancaster. Known as the "Mayor of Wedgefield", Jimmy was a loyal friend to all who met him. Jimmy loved to cook and was the king of mac and cheese. He enjoyed engaging in political debates and spending time with family and friends. James passed away peacefully on October 16, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, John J. and Ruth E. Lancaster Sr.; and his son, James A. Lancaster (Anita). Jimmy leaves to cherish his memories, his daughter, McKenzie S. Lancaster of Greenville, S.C.; grandsons, Xzavien and Tyreke Lancaster; sisters, Carrie Mae Lancaster of Sumter S.C. and Joann L. Brown of District Heights, M.D.; brother, John Lancaster Jr. of Camden, S.C.; nieces, Dawnjalice Brown and Briana (Russell) Whitaker; nephews, Varian Robinson, Donte Taylor, Jonathan Brown, Ayinde Lancaster, and (adopted nephew) Neil Brown; aunt, Eleanor R. Goss; uncle, James (Viola) Robinson; great nieces, great nephews, a host of cousins, friends, and his Army battle buddies to fondly cherish his memories.
