He was the third and youngest child born to James "Tossie" and Malvenia Bosier Baxter. At an early age, Mr. Baxter joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church where he and his family attended faithfully. Mr. Baxter received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He served his country by joining the United States Army. After being honorably discharged he moved to Philadelphia PA. Later he returned to Sumter SC and worked at Williams Furniture Plant; before journeying on to Brooklyn NY. After moving to New York, James Baxter Jr. met and married his wife, Mary Goode on August 3, 1972. James had a tremendous love for his family, cooking and fishing. He would not allow the opportunity to pass to attend a gathering, or aboard a boat for a fishing trip. He was known for his custom conversion van occupied with travelling companions. Mr. Baxter was a member of Eagle Lodge 96, where he served as Master of Arms and was a 32nd Degree Mason. In addition to his parents Mr.Baxter was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Baxter; and his brothers, Freddie Baxter and Roosevelt Baxter. Mr. James Baxter Jr.'s earthly journey ended on Saturday evening, August 20, 2022 at New Franklin Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Flushing NY. James Baxter Jr. leaves to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Mary Baxter; his children, Charles Baxter (Ardellia), Ivan Baxter, James Baxter (Karen) and Michele Goode; his grandchildren, Robert James Baxter and Patrick Neville Morgan – who both lived with him and were his personal assistance, Charles Jr, Shaniqua, Amber 'Biscuit', Rodney, Tanjala, Ta'Sheena, Lacreesha, Latifeesha, Carolyn, Mary, James; greatgrands, Jordi'Blair, True, Carsley, Charles III, Justin, Jayden, Jace, Sheniqua Nicole, Iyanna, Brianna, Zaire, Layla, Ariel, Le'Mari, Nathaniel, Darien and Tah'Lontaye. Others who will mourn his passing are his brother-in-law, Claude Goode; sisters-in-law, Maybelle Wilson and Rosa Nelson Baxter; and a special niece, Rose Lang and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.
