Obituary In the afternoon of Friday, October 29, 2021, our heavenly Father, in all his wisdom, called from labor to rest, Mr. Heyward Darryl Brunson in Sumter, SC. Born in Sumter, he was the first-born child of the late Deacon Heyward Brunson and Mrs. Shirley Perry Brunson, he was given the name of his father who adored him.  To distinguish between the two, he became affectionately known by his middle name, "Darryl."  He was lovingly renamed "Puddin" by his great-grandmother, the late Theola Rhames.  And was therefore, known as Puddin to all the elderly ladies in their Pinewood, SC community. Darryl grew up in the Pinewood and Geddings Road communities.  He attended Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Pinewood where he has a long family legacy dating back to the establishment of the Church. Darryl was educated in the public schools of Sumter School District #2, Manchester School and Furman High School. His first employment was as a Student Bus Driver for the district. He was active in community recreation sports as well as school athletics and band.  He enjoyed working with his hands and using the skills taught by his father and grandfather, the late Pinkney (Meta) Brunson, Jr.  He was a skilled carpenter and worked in the furniture industry for many years in Sumter, SC, Thomasville, NC and High Point, NC. Darryl never met a stranger and lived a life to the beat of his own drum.  He was loving and kind and would do anything he could to help others.  He never kept a mean thought or ill-spirit towards anyone.  He loved to laugh and have fun.  The lesson his life has taught, is that tomorrow is not promised.  Live for the moment, unapologetically be yourself, and know that you are a child of God, who will never leave nor forsake you.  He leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving mother and caregiver, Shirley P. Brunson of the home; son, Marcus Wright; daughter, Sophie Hill of Ga.; sisters, Glenda Michelle Brunson of Rock Hill, SC and April (Shaheed) Minder of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Melasha and Rylan of Ga.  His pride and joy as being "The Uncle Darryl" to niece, Shirmeta Brunson of Dallas, NC; nephews, Sheldon Brunson, Shaydon Brunson, and Malachi Brunson of Rock Hill, SC, Omavi Minder, Kibwe Minder, and Zaki Minder of Charlotte, NC.  His grandnieces who simply called him "Darryl" in a way that melted his heart, Khaliliah Brunson of Rock Hill, SC and Ameera Walker of Dallas, NC.  Uncles, Alfred (Dorothy) Brunson and Freddie (Essie) Brunson all of Pinewood, SC, Roosevelt (Jennifer) Nelson of Paxville, SC and aunts, Doris (Earl) Harvin of Sumter, SC, Mattie Ray of Philadelphia, PA, Mary Hopkins of Carrollton, VA and Mazel Perry of Brooklyn, NY.  A host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.   In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, several uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.  He faithfully attended each one of his family and friends' homegoing services and kept their obituaries as a keepsake.  As a result, his spirit is in delight as he greets loved one and now rests in the eternal arms of his Heavenly Father forever.     To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Heyward Darryl, please visit our floral store.
