Obituary Mrs. Hattie Mae Duncan, the wife of the late Henry Duncan, Jr. was born December 18, 1929 in Wedgefield, SC to the late Hopkins and Sally Ann Thomas Washington, Jr.Mrs. Duncan graduated from Orangehill Community School in Wedgefield, SC. She received Christ at an early age. During her youth and into adulthood, she attended Orangehill R.U.M.E. Church, while there she served as the church secretary and as an usher. After uniting in marriage to Henry Duncan, Jr., she joined Orangehill AME Church in Wedgefield, SC and was a member of the choir.Mrs. Duncan worked as a Housekeeping Supervisor in the Hotel and Hospitality Industry in Sumter, SC. Whiles prospering in this field, Mother Duncan helped many family members, friends and others attain employment in the Hotel and Hospitality Industry. She was a hard worker and a fair and ethical supervisor.In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Henry Duncan, III and Rebecca Duncan; three brothers, James Washington, Frank Washington, Sr. and Leroy Washington; two sisters, Dorothy Mae Taylor and Lillian W. Wright.Mrs. Duncan transitioned into eternity on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 in Sumter, SC.Mrs. Duncan is survived by four children, Vermelle Whittleton of Sumter, SC, Helen Duncan of Wedgefield, SC, Rovenia (Kelvin) King of Birmingham, AL and Louvenia Duncan of Sumter, SC; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four sisters, Rovenia Harris, Naomi Polk, Sally (Marion) Green and Susan Sims; two brothers, Harry (Hattie) Washington and Matthew (Barbara) Washington and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Vermelle Whittleton 9 Kenilworth Ave Sumter, SC Public Visitation 1:00 pm - 6:00 pm Tuesday, October 16, 2018 Whites Mortuary LLC 517 N Guignard Drive Sumter, South Carolina, United States 29150 Worship Experience 12:00 pm Wednesday, October 17, 2018 Orangehill AME Church 3035 SC Highway 261 Wedgefield, South Carolina, United States 29168 Interment Service Orangehill AME Church Cemetery 3035 SC Highway 261 Wedgefield, South Carolina, United States 29168 To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Hattie Mae Duncan, please visit our floral store.
