Obituary

Obituary George Ritter, affectionately called "Pie" was born to the late Clarence and Gladdie Silas Ritter on May 23, 1946 in Eutawville, SC. He was educated in the public schools of Holly Hill, SC. His hobbies included fishing, playing guitar, singing, fixing lawn mowers and playing checkers. He was well known for his sense of style and his love for suits was truly exceptional. Upon moving to Sumter, South Carolina George found employment with Cooper Tools, now known as Apex Tools Group. His love for music and playing the guitar led him to become a member of Deacon Burgess and the Mighty Soul Searchers of Sumter. He also played for various groups around the Sumter area such as The Majestic Gospel Singers, Frankie Smalls and the Soul Searchers, The Sumter  Violinaires and many others. He also started his own group with his daughters under the name of Brother George and New Faith. He sang and played gospel music for many years. His love for God and music gave him the opportunity to become the musician for the Church of Christ where he   established his membership. Under the leadership of Pastor James Clark, he served as the choir director and was ordained an elder in April of 2017. George was very sincere in his walk with Christ and was unashamed of the gospel, which he shared with everyone he met. He was preceded in death by both parents, a brother Limous Ritter and his first wife, Ida Mack Ritter. He departed this life on Monday, April 6, 2020 in Sumter. He leaves to cherish his memory, two brothers; Marion (Estelle) Ritter of Hollywood, FL and Clarence Ritter of West Palm Beach, FL, two sisters, Mary (Bishop Robert) Gathers of Orangeburg, SC and Julia Davis of Eutawville, SC. nine sons, Carl (Vanessa) Capers of Holly Hill, SC, John Capers of Jersey City, Lorenzo Mack of Santee, SC, George Sharian) Ritter of Holly Hill, Elijah (Amy) Ritter of Chula Vista, California, Quincy (Yolanda) Farmer of Sumter, SC, Corey (MyChel) Farmer of Columbia, SC, Terrence (Tikilia) Burgess of Sumter, SC and    Michael Glover of Summerville, SC; seven daughters, Sheril Ritter of Vance, SC, Sonya Farmer, Georgette (Jeremiah) Perry, Tekeshia Burgess, Sharon Burgess and Lawanda Burgess, all of Sumter, SC and Nicole (Matthew) McCutheon of Columbia, SC; four  daughters reared as his own, Jacqueline Plowden,   Lorraine (Reginald) Johnson of Sumter, SC; Helen (Barkley) McGill of Lynchburg, SC and Katherine (Sam) Russell of Detroit, MI; a special friend,  Fernette Shelton, seventy-two grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  Public Viewing 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Friday, April 10, 2020 Whites Mortuary LLC 517 N Guignard Drive Sumter, South Carolina, United States 29150   To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of George Ritter, Sr, please visit our floral store.
