Obituary

Pastor Freddie C. Williams, Jr. was a devoted servant of God, a loving husband, father, son, brother, and a faithful shepherd whose life reflected compassion, wisdom, humor, and unwavering faith. He was born on August 4, 1976, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Freddie C. Williams, Sr. and Delores Burton. Freddie was educated in the West Virginia public school system and earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of West Virginia. He spent time at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and was in pursuit of a Master of Divinity degree.

Pastor Freddie proudly served his country for four years in the United States Army, and for an additional sixteen years in the United States Army National Guard. The military gave Rev. Freddie the opportunity to travel to locations like Colorado, Alaska, Egypt, Louisiana and more. He learned electrical and logistical skills, as well as Information Technology. During his years of service, he demonstrated the same character that would later define his ministry; discipline, courage, humility, and a deep commitment to serving others. His time in the military helped shape his leadership, resilience, and dedication to community, values that remained evident throughout the rest of his life. Pastor Freddie often spoke with gratitude about the lessons learned during his service and the people he had the honor of serving alongside.

Although Pastor Freddie was a chemistry geek and worked diligently in the technology field, his heart for people, especially young men, moved him to volunteer as a Boy Scout troop leader and a mentor in Promise Youth Development. He also formed a local mentoring program supporting boys raised by single mothers. Through these roles, he helped develop young men with the values of leadership, integrity, responsibility, and service. Pastor Freddie continued to excel in business and community life, positively impacting all, which he considered an honor and privilege to work with and serve.

To know Pastor Freddie was to know his passion for sports. Throughout his formative years and throughout college, Pastor Freddie planned to play for the NFL. Pursuit of this dream moved him to Charlotte, NC to train and tryout at the Panther’s combine. But God had different plans for Freddie’s life and called him to pastor in 2004. He answered that call after experiencing a profound encounter with God that shaped the direction of his life. Pastor Freddie faithfully served in ministry for over 20 years at New Beginnings Church in Matthews, NC, and in 2024, he became the Pastor of LightWay Church in Charlotte NC. During his time at LightWay Church, Pastor Freddie devoted himself whole heartedly to preaching the Word, mentoring others, and strengthening families through faith. He is known for his insightful teaching, relatable storytelling, and heartfelt prayers. Pastor Freddie understood the power of prayer and its importance as a discipline for believers. In 2025 he co-authored a 31-day devotional, “A Call To Prayer”, by Global Compass Prayer Ministries, Inc.

Pastor Freddie had a unique gift for making people feel both challenged and deeply encouraged. Many remember his sermons not only for their wisdom, but for the warmth, humor, and authenticity that made everyone feel welcome. Those who knew Pastor Freddie best often described him as joyful, wise, and full of life. He had a way of bringing laughter into any room and was known for his gracious spirit. Outside the pulpit, he enjoyed football and recently converted from being a Giants fan to the Panthers. He was a huge fan of sports and that included basketball and baseball. Freddie enjoyed sneakers, spending time with family, friends and serving others in the community. Whether offering counsel, sharing a meal, or simply listening, Pastor Freddie made people feel seen, valued and encouraged.

Pastor Freddie cherished his family. He and his beloved wife, Brandi, have been married for eighteen years and have built a life centered on faith, love and partnership.

Pastor Freddie’s father, Freddie C. Williams, Sr., preceded him in death.

Reverend Freddie C. Williams, Jr., peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on Monday, February 23, 2026, surrounded by love and prayer.

Pastor Freddie leaves behind to honor his memory his beloved wife, Brandi Brown Williams; three sons, Pierson Williams, Price Williams, and Princeton Williams; one daughter, Parys Williams; his loving mother, Delores Williams; and a host of relatives, church family, and dear friends who called him “Brother” and those who loved him immensely.

Pastor Freddie was a man who embodied the love of God and the love of people. His life was a testimony of faith, service and love. Though he has finished his earthly assignment, his legacy will continue through the lives he touched, the youth he mentored and the faith he so passionately shared.
